KUBUN Playground. Wooden play concept

A modular wooden playground that stays hard to climb. The ground under it is deliberately uneven — and gets re-arranged as the child grows.

The model without materials — hut, log slide, balance log and the swing canopy as one assembly

Overview

Most playgrounds are built flat, and a flat playground stops being interesting almost immediately — a child walks it once and it's solved. KUBUN starts from the opposite assumption: uneven ground is the point. The hut doesn't sit on a slab, it sits on loose logs, so getting to it is already part of the play.

The whole thing is wood, styled somewhere between a robot and the forest it stands in. It was modelled in Fusion 360 and rendered on site, at a real time of year — an autumn wood, leaves down, half the frames shot at dusk.

Children like uneven surfaces. Flat ground gets boring fast.

The Idea in Three Decisions

Logs instead of a floor

The structure rests on loose logs. Re-lay them and the approach gets harder — the same playground can be tuned from a two-year-old up.

A roof over the swings

The canopy isn't decoration. It keeps the swings and the deck dry through light rain, so the thing is usable more days of the year.

Railings where the fall matters

The upper deck is closed off on the sides where a fall would actually hurt, and left open where the climb is the point.

Modular by design

Hut, canopy, slide and swings are separate pieces. A site takes as many as it has room for.

The logs aren't decoration. They're the difficulty setting.

LAMUN — the Other Direction

The same exploration produced a second concept: instead of a robot-like box, an animal. A bench under the head, a slide out of the back, one piece rather than a modular run. It stayed a sketch, but it's here because it's the road not taken.
