Privacy Policy - Lexifun

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Lexifun ("we", "our", or "the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using Lexifun, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Important: Lexifun is developed and operated by an individual developer. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and synced via iCloud (if you have iCloud enabled):

• Word Collections: Your custom vocabulary collections including word pairs, translations, emojis, and metadata (language, difficulty level, categories)
• Learning Progress: Your study statistics, progress tracking, and learning history
• App Settings: Your preferences including UI language, notification settings, and app customization
• Usage Limits: Monthly collection creation counters for free tier users (synced via iCloud Key-Value Store)
• Audio Recordings: Temporary voice recordings for pronunciation practice (stored locally, automatically deleted after processing)

Storage Methods:

• CoreData with CloudKit integration (NSPersistentCloudKitContainer)
• iCloud Key-Value Store for usage counters
• UserDefaults for app preferences

Important: All this data is stored on YOUR device and YOUR iCloud account. We (the developer) DO NOT have access to your iCloud data. Apple manages iCloud sync automatically if you enable it in your device settings.

2.2 Information Sent to Third Parties

Claude API (Anthropic):

• When you create new word collections, your topic requests and generation preferences are sent to Claude AI API
• This includes: topic name, preferred languages, phrase count, and dialogue preferences
• What we DON'T send: Your existing collections, learning progress, personal information, or any other user data
• Purpose: To generate contextual phrases and translations for your learning collections

Important API Limitation Disclosure:

The App uses Claude API with a developer-provided API key. This API key has usage limits and costs associated with it. If the developer's API balance runs out or the API key becomes invalid:

• You will NOT be able to create new word collections (even if you are a paying subscriber)
• Your existing collections will continue to work normally
• All other app features (learning, practice, pronunciation) will work normally
• We will make reasonable efforts to maintain API availability, but cannot guarantee 100% uptime

Apple Services:

• In-App Purchases & Subscriptions: Managed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Apple processes your payment information according to their privacy policy
• iCloud Sync: If enabled, your app data syncs via iCloud (managed by Apple)
• We DO NOT collect, store, or have access to your payment information or credit card details

3. Device Permissions

The App requests the following permissions:

Microphone Access:

• Purpose: To record your voice for pronunciation practice
• Usage: Recordings are processed locally on your device
• Storage: Temporary - automatically deleted after speech recognition processing
• You can deny this permission - the app will work normally, but pronunciation practice features will be disabled

Speech Recognition:

• Purpose: To analyze your pronunciation and provide feedback
• Processing: Handled by Apple's on-device speech recognition (iOS 13+)
• Data: Audio is processed locally and not sent to external servers
• You can deny this permission - the app will work normally, but pronunciation practice features will be disabled

4. How We Use Your Information

• App Functionality: To provide core features like word collection management, learning progress tracking, and pronunciation practice
• Personalization: To customize your learning experience and remember your preferences
• Service Improvement: To generate relevant phrases and translations via Claude AI
• Subscription Management: To verify your subscription status through Apple's StoreKit (managed by Apple)

5. Data Retention

• Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete the app or manually delete collections
• iCloud Data: Synced data remains in your iCloud account according to Apple's policies. Deleting the app removes local data but may not immediately delete iCloud data
• Audio Recordings: Automatically deleted immediately after pronunciation analysis
• API Requests: We do not store logs of your API requests. Claude AI may log requests according to Anthropic's policies

6. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We DO NOT:

• Sell your personal information to anyone
• Share your data with advertisers or marketing companies
• Use analytics or tracking tools (no Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.)
• Collect device identifiers for tracking purposes

We DO share minimal data with:

• Anthropic (Claude AI): Only topic generation requests - no personal information
• Apple: Subscription status and iCloud sync (if enabled by you) - managed by Apple's privacy policy

7. Children's Privacy

Lexifun is suitable for users of all ages, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. All data remains on the user's device and iCloud account (if enabled). Parents should supervise children's use of iCloud features.

8. Data Security

Local Security:

• Data stored on your device is protected by iOS security features (encryption, secure storage)
• iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest (managed by Apple)

API Security:

• API communications use HTTPS encryption
• API keys are stored securely in UserDefaults (protected by iOS keychain-level security)

Limitations:

• We cannot guarantee absolute security as no method of electronic storage is 100% secure
• If your device is compromised, your locally stored data may be at risk
• If your iCloud account is compromised, synced data may be at risk

9. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access your data: All your data is accessible within the app
• Delete your data: Delete word collections, clear learning history, or delete the entire app
• Disable iCloud sync: Turn off iCloud sync in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Lexifun
• Revoke permissions: Disable microphone or speech recognition in iOS Settings → Lexifun
• Cancel subscription: Manage subscriptions in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions

Data Portability:

• Currently, there is no built-in export feature for word collections
• Your data is stored in standard CoreData format in your iCloud account

10. Service Limitations and Disclaimers

API Dependency:

The core collection generation feature depends on a third-party API (Claude AI) with the following limitations:

• API usage has monetary costs and rate limits
• If the developer's API quota is exceeded or balance depletes, collection generation will temporarily fail
• This affects ALL users, including paid subscribers
• Existing collections and all other features remain functional
• We will make reasonable efforts to restore service, but cannot guarantee immediate resolution

No Warranty:

The App is provided "as is" without warranties. We do not guarantee:

• Uninterrupted API availability
• Accuracy of AI-generated translations
• 100% uptime for all features

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in this document with an updated "Effective Date". Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

We will notify you of significant changes through:

• In-app notification
• Update notes in the App Store
